New AX GTi Owner

Wed Aug 12, 2015 10:38 pm

Hi there,
I've just acquired an ax GTi prepped up for track days, I wasn't really looking for an ax but got pointed in the direction by pistonheads shed of the week. Quickly realised they are one of the quickest 1400cc and under cars about and kicked the idea of a corsa or clio into touch.
The car is going to be used for autotests and maybe targa events.
The cost of insurance was a bit of an eye opener, only £100 less than it costs to insure a Japanese turbo nutter 400bhp sports saloon worth ten times more. At least the VED was a bit cheaper.

The car is a bit too low at the moment, I'm going to try some 106 gravel springs to raise the ride height at the front and adjust the torsion bars at the rear.

I trailered it home so not driven it much yet but it has been fun without having to go at warp factor 10 for the 30 or so miles I've done in it so far.
1360cc is plenty enough for some fun!!

Welcome! First time on a car forum I've heard anyone say they needed to raise a car's ride height. Kudos to you.
If that doesn't work, hit it with a bigger hammer...

I've got the gravel springs fitted along with some bilstein inserts.

A fair bit nicer to drive, and don't live in fear of speed humps any more.

Just need to raise the rear ride height to match now. [-X

Battery box on its way to keep scrutineers happy.

I need to put some trim and rear seats back in so I can use it for targa events.

and I ought to get organised to pay up a tenner.
